Assisted living

You live in your own apartment within one of our Häuser zum Leben, thereby enjoying all the comforts of a retirement home, while receiving individual assistance and care tailored to your predefined needs – regardless of your long-term care allowance. A multi-disciplinary team provides the service that is right for you.

You are therefore integrated into the home’s social life yet still have your own four walls. We offer special assistance for particular needs. This may vary depending on your predefined requirements. Under certain conditions, the following services are available:

Day care

Our day care service provides assistance with everyday life – alone or in a group. We offer: gardening, dancing, theatre, memory training and much more. Our aim is to promote your independence, mental and physical fitness, as well as your emotional wellbeing, for as long as possible. Our day care service is available for up to five hours a day from Monday to Friday.

Enhanced day care for residents with dementia-type illnesses

In all of our Häuser zum Leben, we care for people with dementia-type illnesses. We support people with dementia and enable a structured daily routine of activities within a community. Capabilities are encouraged and new things can be learned. Through meaningful tasks and activities self-competence is strengthened and quality of life is improved. This helps to maintain the independence needed for living alone.

Enhanced day care for people with socio-psychiatric needs

In certain homes, we offer assisted living specifically for older people with socio-psychiatric needs. The focus is on supporting your independence and self-determination, as well as providing assistance with meaningful social integration tasks and activities. This specific care by specially trained staff takes place in groups of no more than 14 people. Our service ranges from basic care, through needs-based medical assistance, to emotional support as part of a structured, individual daily and weekly schedule.

Enhanced day care for people with disabilities

In certain homes, we offer assisted living specifically for older people with disabilities. The daily schedules are structured and organised together with the cognitively and/or physically impaired residents, thereby enabling them to lead a normal everyday life in their own apartments. Specially trained, experienced staff provide dedicated, professional support according to residents’ needs.

Support centres for people with dementia

In certain homes there are support centres for people with dementia. These provide disoriented residents in need of out-patient care with the highest possible quality of life and maximum freedom in an appropriate setting. Tried and tested concepts are used, such as Naomi Feil’s Validation therapy, basal stimulation and aromatherapy. This sophisticated range of treatments makes it possible to recognise wishes and needs and promote existing skills. Admission is short-term and only for the purpose of stabilisation.

In-patient nursing care

Every home of Häuser zum Leben has links to at least one in-patient facility. Qualified nursing staff are on hand to provide care and assistance around the clock. At certain times, you will also receive medical care from our doctors. The focus is on resident-focused care, assistance and treatment. You are welcome to attend all the events in our homes and make use of the communal areas.

Rehabilitation facilities in the Wieden, Atzgersdorf and Gustav Klimt homes

Retirees are supported to regain their mobility following a fall or as a result of illness, in order to enable them to return to their own apartment. This includes reinforcing and restoring everyday skills and learning to use mobility aids independently. All our medical and nursing care is provided by inter-disciplinary teams, consisting of doctors, occupational and physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers and nurses.

In-patient care at Döbling Hospice

The in-patient hospice at our Döbling home is designed for terminally ill patients over the age of 18 who are suffering from complex symptoms that require a high level of nursing, medical and psycho-social care. Terminally ill patients, along with their families and relatives, receive all types of care from a multitude of professionals. The focus is on maintaining and promoting patients’ quality of life. They should be able to lead a self-determined, dignified life until the very end.

Temporary stays

Temporary assisted living

Are you temporarily unable to use your home? Due to your state of health do you temporarily need more intensive support or care that cannot take place in your home? Our service ‘temporary assisted living’ enables retirees in need of care or support to take advantage of all services that we offer our residents. With approval for funding from the Vienna Social Fund there is the possibility to live in a furnished Haus zum Leben for up to 92 days a year.

Relief for relatives

Our Häuser zum Leben offer a special service for families and relatives who need short-term support to care for their loved ones due to holidays, illness or lack of time. Depending on the level of care required, loved ones are looked after as part of our ‘assisted living’ service or in an inpatient setting. With this offer, which is subsidised by the Vienna Social Fund, there is the possibility to request up to 35 days of support a year in one of our homes.

Daily fresh-cooked meals

We often hear it said that food brings people together. With this in mind, we bring our residents together up to five times a day for breakfast and lunch in our ‘GastHaus’ restaurants. Our residents receive a varied full board catering service consisting of three delicious main meals including hot and cold drinks. In addition, two snacks between meals are available per day on request. Meals can also be eaten in the apartments.

Our residents can choose from different menus – these include dishes suitable for people with diabetes and easy-to-eat soft food. We cook the food fresh every day with high-quality ingredients. More than 30 percent of the food is organic.

Meet-ups at MarktPlatz

MarktPlatz: grocery store, kiosk, regular social meeting place and cafe. Here you can enjoy coffee and cake as well as a small meal on your own, with friends or with visitors. The MarktPlatz is the cafe in our Häuser zum Leben.

Since 2015 Häuser zum Leben has been providing aid to refugees. In certain homes, apartments that are not needed for retirees are allocated to refugees, in particular families. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February 2022, a number of families who had to flee from the war have been living in some of our Häuser zum Leben. As part of the refugee assistance service, Häuser zum Leben offer basic care, assisted living and work integration.
